Rödl & Partner to expand to new countries

Rödl & Partner constantly grows its business. In 2016, we opened three new offices – in Tehran, Iran, in Curitiba in Brazil and in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2017 yet another office, this time in Europe – in Denmark, will open its doors to customers, which means that Rödl & Partner will have 107 offices in 50 countries worldwide.

Starting from January 2017, Rödl & Partner will be represented in Copenhagen, Denmark under the name "LEAD, Rödl & Partner". The firm is going to operate under a partnership agreement with one of the leading medium-sized Danish law firms. The business is going to focus on investments and transactions, especially direct foreign investments.

This strategic step is just what Rödl & Partner needs in the Baltic Sea Region, says Prof. Christian Rödl. We have been present in Northern Europe since 1993 and lately our business expansion in Finland has been very successful. "LEAD, Rödl & Partner" in Denmark is another step in the international and interdisciplinary expansion of our firm.

Furthermore, Rödl & Partner office in Nairobi, Kenya, had its grand opening in October. It is run by Charles MacKenzie who has been working as tax and legal adviser for over 30 years now. Charles MacKenzie is also a Chartered Accountant.

Kenya is one of the most interesting African growth markets, says Prof. Christian Rödl, Managing Partner. For many years its economy has been developing very rapidly, and in the last five years it has experienced exponential growth. Apart from that, with promising budding industries, such as IT, energy sector, real estate and mobile banking, the investment environment is particularly favourable.

In November 2016, a new Rödl & Partner office was also opened in Tehran, Iran. Already since the beginning of last year Rödl & Partner offered its German clients in Iran legal and tax advice, BPO and Corporate Finance services.

International experience and high intercultural competencies predestine Rödl & Partner to "build bridges" in that region. We advise our clients on the development of their businesses in Iran and on how to best use its great potential. At the same time, we advise Iranian companies on their investments in German and European enterprises, as well as on capital market transactions, says Dr. José Campos Nave, Managing Partner who co-manages the legal and tax advisory services with Carla Everhardt, attorney at law and Associate Partner.

Brazil can boast already the second office of Rödl & Partner – in Curitiba, a city located in the country's south. Before the new office was opened, the firm provided its clients with comprehensive audit, BPO and tax and business advisory services in the largest Brazilian metropolis, São Paulo.

Many of our clients would like to contribute to the positive development of the South of Brazil, which is why they choose to set up their businesses in Curitiba. It is very important to us that we can support our clients on site, through our own office, adds Martin Wambach, Managing Partner in charge of, among other things, the firm's development in Latin America.

Poland ranks second among the most attractive countries for German investors

German family businesses strongly prefer investing in the home market, but at the same time they dynamically expand into global markets. According to the survey of investment activity among German family businesses, conducted by Rödl & Partner, the most attractive places for them to invest are the United States and the EU Member States. Poland is the favourite among the European countries. An increasing interest in investments can be observed also in other countries of Central and Eastern Europe, such as the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Much less popular are the countries which used to be strong in that area, i.e. France and China (among others).

Rödl & Partner conducted the survey in the first half of 2016. It involved 200 corporate relations managers and M&A consultants from international banks and financial institutions, whose clients included German family businesses operating in the international markets. It was the fourth study of activity of such businesses, conducted by Rödl & Partner. The survey aims at identifying the motives and attitudes of the businesses in the context of strategic development, as well as describing the current market trends.

On 17 October, our representatives were also present at the job fairs "Trained in Germany" arranged by Alumniportal Deutschland in cooperation with the Polish-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It was followed by workshops carried out in German, as well as a debate on the labour market in terms of German-Polish relations.

The following week (on 26 October), the so-called Giełda Pracodawców Uczelni Łazarskiego (a job fair event arranged by the Łazarski University) took place in Warsaw – internships and job placements were offered to students. The students had an opportunity to learn all about working at Rödl & Partner and about the specifics of jobs such as attorneys at law, auditors or accountants, as well as how to fill in the internship application forms. The Łazarski University has held that job fair for 13 years now.

Due to its rich traditions in this area, Rödl & Partner is a perfect place for students of law, economics and similar faculties to start their professional career. 2015 Christmas Card

Our Christmas card was designed this year by a 16-year old girl from the Care and Education Centre in Wągrowiec near Poznań who took part in the contest we organised there. We received 29 drawings from 20 children and the choice was, as always, not easy. Eventually, Wiktoria’s picture stole our hearts with its simplicity as well as peace and warmth exuding from it.

The winner received camera accessories and a Sinsay gift card. The other participating children received gift cards and we part-financed a joint trip to Poznan. Finally, we gave the centre’s director money for new kitchen equipment which is used by all children and their caretakers.

Dr hab. dr Marcin Jamroży Heads the AHK Tax Committee

Dr hab. dr Marcin Jamroży has been appointed the head of the newly-created Tax Committee at the Polish-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK).

The AHK Tax Committee was established on 3 December 2015 and its mission is to review and opine draft legislation and propose legislative amendments to the tax law. The Committee will also identify and analyse tax barriers to the growth of entrepreneurship in Poland and development of economic relations between Poland and Germany, including the monitoring of tax policy trends in both countries. It will also endeavour to foster the entrepreneurship and investment climate in Poland.

“We have been working with the Polish-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK) for more than 20 years now. The tax and legal regulations have improved over that period. However, reports from German investors clearly show that the situation is still nowhere near perfect. In the course of nearly 25 years of presence on the Polish market we have earned a reputation of a leading tax advisory firm among German investors. That is why, together with the AHK we have decided to establish the Tax Committee which, I sincerely hope, will have a powerful voice in the debate over changes in Polish tax law”, said Marcin Jamroży.

Top places in industry rankings confirm also our stronger position in the market, e.g. the 1st place in the Book of Lists in the Business Process Outsourcing category. The real credit for our success goes to our clients and hard work. Our presence in the finals of a contest as prestigious as EuropaProperty CEE Retail Real Estate in as many as two categories confirms that our achievements in the retail and real estate sector are noticed and appreciated in the market. I am very happy and can promise that in 2015 we will work even harder. – Renata Kabas-Komorniczak, Partner at Rödl & Partner.

Rödl & Partner Christmas card

For the last 5 years Rödl & Partner has been organising a Christmas card contest for children from orphanages. The contest always takes place in an institution from a different province. We print our Christmas wishes on the winning card. The author of this year's card is thirteen-year old Wiktoria Zalejska from the orphanage in Sieborowice near Cracow. Every year the author of the card and the other children from the orphanage receive presents from us. This time we have additionally sponsored a trip for all the children to take place next year. We are happy to be able to help making children's wishes come true during this special time and to share our joy.

During those 14 years almost 20,000 households have received charity during Christmas.
